As OTA local broadcast channels continue to grow in popularity with services like skinny bundles, cable operators must buy into ATSC 3.0 or face competing against it. While embracing ATSC 3.0 within current cable infrastructures may be challenging, operators will be confronted with the onslaught of rapidly morphing SVOD services, including targeted advertising – which presents competitive pricing. Cable operators may extend the first screen’s legacy advantage of the highest quality unmatched by streaming services to cable platforms, and unique interactive services to the platform’s RDK. The next-gen standard – a cable operator’s opportunity to use it or lose it.
